Ibarapa aspirants reject imposition of candidates

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship, vice chairmanship and councillorship aspirants from Ibarapa geopolitical zone, comprising all the Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the zone, have kicked against imposition of candidates in the forthcoming Oyo State Local Government election.
The aspirants made this known in a petition written to the state chapter of the party in which they alleged imposition of candidates by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the state ahead of the May 12 election.
The aspirants, who expressed shock over the development, declared lamented that the governor and some stalwarts of the party supervised the party’s primary in a hotel, a decision they likened to what happened in George Orwell’s political satire, ‘Animal Farm’.
The aspirants, who described the staging of the primary in the hotel as “a form of dictatorship”, appealed to the leadership of the party to prevail on Gov Amosun to do the constitutional thing.
In the letter addressed to the APC chairman in the state, Chief Akin Oke, they specifically observed that unless the governor does the “constitutional thing” it might be difficult for peace to reign in the party.
In the letter signed by former Caretaker, Committee Chairman in Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Akinyemi Akinlabi; former Chairman in Ibarapa East, Hon. Adeloore Atanda and former Caretaker Committee Chairman in Ibarapa North Hon. Tunji Omolewu on behalf of others, a copy of which was obtained on Tuesday, the aspirants described the action as alien to “the constitution of the party and that of Nigeria.”
