Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, has said it will employ the “Turnitin” software to check academic plagiarism

Dr Kabir Adamu, the Turnitin Administrator in the institution, said this would encourage researchers and students to be original in their works

Adamu said that some students copy and paste other people’s work without considering the academic and legal implications of such action

“Turnitin is a means that rewards hard work through research paper writing

It helps the academics to check for quality and originality in academic work

“It has helped lecturers to examine papers and found out whether the student had plagiarised the text from an unquoted author,” he said

Adamu added that the university was in the first phase of passing students’ works through “turnitin”, adding that the software would be incorporated into its platform

“By so doing IBB University would gain global recognition academically that will be beneficial to the student and the university,” he said

Th e coordinator said that the new initiative was not meant to sabotage the effort of students but to make them self reliant and able to compete globally

“We insist on it so that we can improve them and make them to troubleshoot and get it right by hard work

“Student should see the positive side of this vision as other people will read their work online and that start building their academic moral,” he said
