ICC World Cup Africa qualifier: NCF roles out u-19 Squad

With two months to this year’s International Cricket Council (ICC) under-19 World Cup Africa Qualifier within the division slated for Namibia, the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has named 14-man squad to prosecute a 10-day competition.

Revealing the names of the Players who will represent the Nigerian team dubbed Junior Yellow Greens via a statement issued to Blueprint Sports on Monday, Public Relations Officer of the federation, Musa Ehizoje Bodie hinted that they were selected after 10 days of camping in Abuja.

According to him: “After a 5 series of 50 overs ODI matches, the Federation is pleased to inform the general public that a final Fourteen (14) man Squad have been selected to represent the country in the ICC U-19 world cup Africa qualifier Div. 2, taking place in Namibia from the 13th  – 24th  March 2019.

 “Among the familiar names in this squad are, Olaleye Elijah, Runsewe Suleiman, Jimoh Abdulraman, and Peter Aho. However, 3 players have made the team for the first time with the most impressive inclusion being Akhere Isesele. The team will once again be led Sylvester Okpe as Captain.”

Against all odds, Nigeria in August last year in a tournament, staged in South Africa were crowned champions after defeating Ghana, Rwanda, Mozambique, Tanzania and Sierra Leone to lift the ICC U-19 Africa Div. two trophy.

Nigeria will do battle  again against Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Namibia for a place in the ICC U-19 2020 World Cup in South Africa.
