The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has recovered over N1.1 billion forfeited to the federal government between January and March 2021, ICPC chairman, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye has said.
The commission’s boss stated this last week while briefing the Senate committee on anti-corruption and financial crimes committee during an oversight visit to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.
The committee was led by its chairman, Senator Suleiman Kwari.
The ICPC boss told the committee that N418.8million and $1.5million in domiciliary accounts were forfeited to the federal government in the first quarter of this year.
Similarly, he said the agency also seized five plots of land, 13 businesses, 29 buildings, one vehicle and five farms during the period under review.
He also said 73 cases were filed in 2020 while only 11 were filed between January and March 2021.
Owasanoye also said the agency secured 26 convictions in 2020 and four convictions in the first quarter of 2021.
He added that N147bn was restrained by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation from personnel, overhead and capital costs.
In his remarks, the visiting lawmakers lauded the anti-graft agency for its achievements so far, assuring the Senate would give the agency necessary support to do more.
