ICT can revolutionise education sector – Expert

E x p e r t i n t h e I n f o r m a t i o n a n d Communication Technology (ICT), sector and the Chief Executive Officer of Ynet Interactive, Chuka Okoye, has disclosed that embracing technology in education can revolutionise the sector just as it did to the banking sector of Nigeria’s economy.
According to him, given the several challenges facing the country’s education sector, technology application is the only phenomenon that can rescue the sector.
Mr Okoye made the disclosure during a free workshop organized by the company for school proprietors, teachers and other stakeholders from both public and private schools within Abuja and environs.
Blueprint reports that the workshop focused on ‘School Automation’ and how such solutions can be used to eliminate the challenges, ineffi ciencies and inadequacies of the manual management systems used in most educational institutions.
Mr Okoye stated that schools automation which is just one aspect of ICT, can ease the burden of teaching and make the teachers’ job a lot easier, adding that ICT has the capacity to revolutionize the education sector, just like it did to banking.
Speaking on the aim of the workshop, the General Manager, Ynet Interactive, Uzo Okpaka, said the company wanted to add value to the education sector on the relevance of ICT, and to equip school owners with the necessary information they needed to manage their internal processes.
Mrs Okpaka further said that ICT can bring about an effective planning and management of educational institutions, more effi cient processing of large volumes of data as well as address fraud and other corrupt practices.
One of the participants, Mohammed Abass, who commended the organizers, stated that for schools to properly compete and stay relevant, especially in the 21st Century, they must adopt ICT by ensuring that their schools are automated.
