IFA seeks partnership with NCPWD on Disability Prohibition Act, others

Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) is seeking collaboration with the National Commission for Person With Disability (NCPWD) in the area of training and advocacy.

The Executive Director, Grace Jerry said this during an advocacy visit to the National Commission for Person with Disability (NCPWD) recently in Abuja.

Jerry, urged the commission to ensure to see how it can address some of the challenges associated with the Discrimination Against Person With Disability Prohibition Act.

She further requested the NCPWD to coordinate activities of Organization of Person With Disability (OPWDs) so as not to have divergent efforts.

While responding, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Jame Lalu appreciated IFA visit stating that every point raised was essential.

He acknowledged IFA on the ACCESS Nigeria Campaign and impact made in the electoral process.

In his words, Lalu emphasizes the need for data as essential to achieving the desired goal of the commission. He told IFA that the Commission plans to ensure all PWDs have a certificate of identification.

He said it will help identify PWDs in any period of intervention by the government or other well-meaning stakeholders.

ES emphasized the need for mobilization and identification of PWD. He stressed that, beyond the partnership built with the National Population Commission (NPC) at the apex level in Abuja, there was still need for LGA campaigns and mobilization to ensure that PWDs come out in their numbers to participate in the proposed exercise. In his argument to buttress the need for mobilization and campaigns, he identified the concerns of self-denial amongst PWDs.

The IFA team was received by the Executive Secretary Mr James D. Lalu, M. S. Hassan Legal Adviser, Lawrence Edelifo the Ag. Director of Social Inclusion, Dooshima Pius Ikerave the Chief Press Secretary and other team members of the Commission.
