Igbo Journalists celebrate Nigeria @60, task leaders on enhanced impact

Practice Journalists from the Igbo extraction under the aegis of United Igbo Journalists (UIJ) has congratulated Nigerians its 60th Independence anniversary.


The congratulatory message which is contained in a press statement by the Chairman of UIJ Comrade Emeka Nze in Abuja noted that country since independence has struggled in virtually every aspect of its corporate existence.


The Journalist group noted with dismay the various non-progressive economic impact and tasked leaders at all levels including the President, Governors, Local Government Chairman and Legislators to brace up.
According to the statement, there is need for the three arms and tiers of Nigeria’s government to evolve fresh idea of tackling myriads of challenges bedevilling the nation.


“At 60, Nigeria is not supposed to be grappling with bad roads, near-collapse educational, health system, poor electoral system, lack of many basic amenities as well as inflation of monies meant to execute contract.
“One of the basic requirements of every responsible government is to protect lives and property. However, insecurity issues have continued unabated in parts of the country, such that Journalist don’t just find it difficult to do their jobs, but it has been very scary for media practitioners and even other professionals to move freely.


“We expect that governments should as part of anti-corruption efforts ensure justice and fairness in all its dealings. It’s expected that anyone at anytime who is found wanting no matter his political, ethical or social leaning should be brought to book as a way of ensuring sanity in all sphere of our national lives,” the UIJ President said.
