Igbo youth berates Ohanaeze over call for Buhari’s resignation

The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide, Sunday, described the call for resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari by Ohanaeze Ndigbo few days after his swearing-in as ‘idiotic and barbaric.’

The group warned that such call is capable of igniting war especially as Igbo living in the Northern part of the country would be worst hit.

OYC disclosed this in a press statement signed by President General of OYC Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro.

Igbo apex social cultural organization had during the weekend called on President Buhari to resign from office for attending Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) meeting in Saudi Arabia, alleging that the President action was capable of plunging the nation into religious crisis.

OYC said: “We disassociate ourselves from any call for the resignation of President Buhari few days after his swearing in, and urge those behind the call to have a rethink and stop using Igbo platform for personal vendetta against the Presidency.

“We should be forming alliances and building bridges across the Niger than creating enmity with predominantly Northern Muslims by calling on President Buhari to resign on religious ground is fueling religious crisis capable of putting the lives and Properties of Igbo living in the North under threat and unnecessary tension.

“We call on Vice President Yemi Osibanjo to ensure as a Pastor,to douse all fears that is capable of heating up the polity unnecessarily by Summoning the Christian Association of Nigeria and PFN to ensure the Christian community that in a Secular Nation like Nigeria, everyone is protected, and ensure that the Muslim belief of President Buhari is not Misunderstood,” the group said.
