Ighalo heading to Barcelona?

La Liga giants Barcelona are considering pulling a shock move for Nigeria international striker Odion Ighalo in the January transfer window.

Having recently sold 23-year-old forward Munir El Haddadi to Sevilla for €1m and with Dennis Suarez linked with a loan move to Arsenal, Barça are reportedly looking to bully Premier League sides in race for ‘low-cost’ Ighalo.

According to renowned Spanish publication Diarro Sport, Barça are desperately in search of an inexpensive back-up to Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez and they consider Ighalo as a ‘valid alternative’ with five to six other prolific forwards also on their watchlist.

The Spanish side want a striker who they can sign on loan for a reasonable cost this month – just as they did in the case of Columbia center-back Jeison Murillo – and Ighalo, who has been on the lookout for a European move since the relegation of his Chinese side Changchun Yatai, is one of the top options being considered.

The Nigerian striker racked 73 La Liga appearances for Granada in the early years of his career and his experience in the Spanish league is considered a big plus by the Blaugrana.

However, Ighalo had earlier ‘stated’ that he wants a return to the Premier League and is looking to arrive UK in coming days to negotiate his future with interested Premier League sides.
