IGP restates commitment to providing quality, basic education

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, has restated the commitment of the Police management to provide children of Police personnel and others access to quality and basic educational opportunities to enhance their intellectual well-being and brighten their future at an affordable cost.

Adamu, who stated this while commissioning the Nigeria Police Basic Secondary School, Garki, Abuja, noted that the initiative which is a manifestation of the desire of his leadership to provide modern facilities for children of police personnel and other citizens was part of the broad welfare programme for personnel of the force and their families.

“It is in furtherance to this that I have been empowering and motivating the Force Education Office to expand the educational facilities of the Nigeria Police to more locations across the country and to widen their admission base.

“In line with this, between 2019 and 2020, we have established and successfully completed the permanent sites of Police Children School, Daura, Katsina state and Police Secondary School, Obaekwu-Ndoki, Abia state.

“In order to ensure the effective coordination of the educational activities of the force, we have also completed the national headquarters of the Force Education Unit in Abuja. The ultra-modern complex was commissioned on August 31, 2019. Aside from this, we have invested massively in the renovation, modernisation, re-equipment and expansion of our existing police colleges and schools across the country,” he said.

Earlier, the Force Education Officer, DCP Rabi Umar, appreciated the IGP and his management team for the support they have been giving the unit.

She said, “In line with the present government’s policy on compulsory education from primary to secondary schools, the Force Education Unit has been expanding its presence to make quality education accessible and affordable to the children of Police officers and civilians in all states of the federation.”
