Ikot Ekpene substation to evacuate 3,000MW to national grid

 

The 330KVA Swithing Station in Ikot Ekpene in Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom state, on full capacity will evacuate 3,000 mega watts to national grid, an official of the station has said.
But presently, the station is evacuating between 400 and 500 megawatts because two lines leading Afam and Ikot Abasi power plants to the station are not working.
Conducting Journalists round the station yesterday, its acting Assistant General Manager, Engineer Nasir Bello, said the only Odukpani and Alaoji power plants are currently supplying power to the station.
Bello added that the station, which was commissioned in 2016, had helped to stablise power supply in the country, saying that if all the circuits connected to the station are working, Nigerians would enjoy uninterrupted power supply.
Also speaking, the General Manager, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Port Harcourt zone, Engineer Solomon Uwouko, said that the station, which has eight circuits, on its full capacity, will evacuate 15,000MW to the national grid.
He added the each of the eight circuits has the capacity of 750MW each, adding that it has assisted in power distribution across the country.
Uwuouko also announced that the people of Ikot Ekpene, the hosting community of the plant will soon be enjoying uninterrupted power supply as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) sited a 2 by 150MVA and 2 by 60 MVA substation in the community.
He added that the project was targeted at increasing power supply to the community and the Niger Delta region.
