Ikpeazu: Abia Assembly passes confidence vote

Abia House of Assembly, has joined different pro-Ikpeazu groups in the state canvassing supports for the embattled governor and passed a vote of confidence on Dr Okezie Ikpeazu yesterday during plenary.

This followed a motion moved by the member representing Obi Ngwa West state constituency,Barrister A.T Nkoro supported by other members of the PDP controlled House of Assembly noting that that they are in full support of his present travails,urged him to continue with his purposeful leadership which he is rendering to Abia people.
In his motion, Nkoro who noted the conflicting courts judgements by courts of coordinate jurisdiction is heating up the polity, said the motion became necessary in order to douse the tension while pointing out that there cannot be two governors at a time.

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Petitions said since the ruling of the Federal High Court. Abuja, sacking governor Ikpeazu and asking that Dr Sampson Uche Ogah be sworn in as governor fears have instilled investors and Abians in general.
In their contributions while backing the motion, member representing Bende North and the deputy Speaker,Rt Hon Cosmos Ndukwe,member representing Isi ala Ngwa South,Barr Chikwendu Kanu,member representing Umuahia East,Hon Chukwudi Apugo and member representing Obi Ngwa East,Hon Solomon Akpulonu enjoined those in the litigation to let go personal interest but consider overall wellbeing of Abians as will not only impact negatively on the state but also scare investors in the state.
The lawmakers therefore called on the said litigants to leverage on the governor’s good performance in the last one year to support him with their brilliant ideas and bring their business to move the state forward.

In his own reaction, the Speaker,Rt Hon Martins Azubuike appealed to investors in the state to carry on with their business,noting that the House will make sure their businesses are not in any form of threat.
He also appealed to President Buhari and international community to douse the situation, adding that the state will abide by the rulings of the court when the issues before it are finally resolved while unanimously passing a vote of implicit on governor Ikpeazu.
