Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state weekend told his political opponents and aspirants in opposition political parties that he would stage a comeback in 2013.
The governor stated this in Yola while receiving a former member of the Federal House of Representatives, Adamu Kamale, and some prominent politicians from his senatorial zone in Adamawa north who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) back to PDP.
Governor Fintiri said: “Our door is open for the opposition to come and join us in the task of making Adamawa work again. They destroyed the state and say something at press conferences and call me in the night to say a different thing. That does not make you a man.
“You do this just because you want to please some people in Abuja in order to secure appointment and win contracts. Here in Adamawa, we have the contracts and the appointments, but we will give it to responsible people from whom the masses will benefit.
“I have no time for them because I have a serious business of governance ahead of me. That is why I am not replying them. My concern and priority is the collective interest of Adamawa people, not those who will contest against me. They won’t see my end, I defeated them before and in the next four years, I will defeat them again in 2023.
“We spent three years in PDP fighting internal wrangling because some people wanted to destroy the party. We campaigned for only seven months, but we defeated them despite their power of incumbency.”
He rated his administration high in terms of performance, stressing that within one year in office, he has achieved what APC government cannot achieve in their four wasted years in office. He said that is why they are jittery and confused, hence their decision to resort to blackmail aimed at distracting him from fulfilling his promises to the people. He described their efforts as fruitless.
He said within one year in office, he has fulfilled some of his promises in 10 out of his 11 points agenda despite enormous challenges. He also said the APC did not construct a single classroom in four years, adding that the party strangulated the local government system in the state among many other indices of bad governance.
Fintiri further stated that, apart from his remarkable achievements in vital sectors of the state such as security, education and health, he has also revived local government system in the state to the extent that some local governments compete with the state in terms of development projects. He added that after paying salaries of their staff and other commitments, they still have about N86million left to execute projects.
Governor Fintiri stated that during APC led administration, the people of the state begged for what to eat and parents bought chalk for the education of their children while students sneaked out of school to beg among many other ills.
He said it all ended within one year due to his purposeful leadership and his ability to expand the resources of the state for the benefit of the entire people of Adamawa state.
The governor added that he is not patching roads like that of APC administration, but constructing new roads and he had a contract with the people of Adamawa state for four years.
He said that was why he wasted no time in completing some of the abandoned roads he inherited.
