I’ll give effective representation to my constituents – Oguwike

Barr. Nathan Oguwike, is a legal practitioner based in Abuja and works as an External Advocate and Solicitor for the Nigerian Army. In this interview with CHIDIEBERE IWUOHA in Owerri, Oguwike who is also the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Association of Christian Lawyers Against Corruption and Human Rights Abuses, speaks on his strategies for the effective representation of his people
Background
Oguwike hails from Ogwa Autonomous Community in the Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State. He is also the National Coordinator, National Youth League for Meaningful Democracy which is a certified affiliate, youth group of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before he joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the platform he is currently using to campaign for the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency seat in the National Assembly come 2019.

On effective representation
I believe, by the grace of God, I will be elected. When I am eventually elected, I will give my people effective representation which is what they need. There are a lot of problems, challenges facing my constituency- Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency. We have bad roads and there is need to improve on agriculture because a lot of my people are farmers. We have to dwell on human development. We have to empower women, so that they will not be looked at as people in the other room but take their rightful place in society. Also, opportunities will be given to youths in the society. When we have aggregated all these problems and taken care of them it will ensure good representation. I assure my people that if am elected, I will give my people the needed representation which the previous representatives had not given our people. We need to call the attention of authorities on the above problems and cash in on them. Before you know it, the problems will be addressed. And above all, at the centre of my legislative interest is to be an extra voice for the voiceless youths as well as women in my constituency.
Assessment of Hon. Henry Nwawuba, representing Mbaitoli /Ikeduru Federal Constituency
Nwawuba has failed. You don’t need a ghost from the grave to come and tell you that he has failed. It is obvious that he has failed. What has he been able to do for Mbaike? Constituency projects nil and they receive constituency allowances. Mbaitoli /Ikeduru lacks a voice in the House of Representatives. I don’t know of anybody who can say he has seen Nwawuba in that House as an active representative.

On performance of federal government
When I think about the federal government, I feel ashamed of what we have there as government. This is a government that does not seem to have agenda for Nigerians from the onset. No economic agenda or whatsoever. Every now and then, the government blames the previous government for their woes. Why then did we elect him? Did we elect him to blame? It was the government that promised to effect change. But we have come to realize that the change is that the government was not ready for governance. The government that is fighting corruption, yet many people fingered as corrupt people are cleared. I think it is high time Nigerians should say enough is enough. The APC government has failed, their failure is colossal.

On R-APC and PDP coalition
I don’t think it is the solution to our problem. The PDP you are talking about has failed. It is the same people. Just like putting new wine in an old wine skin. Whether they call themselves, reformed or not, it is the same people. A leopard cannot change its skin. We actually have to give a new set of people a chance.

On Okorocha’s administration in Imo state
The APC government in Imo State has also failed. The government of Rochas Okorocha is unfortunate. Apart from that, what can an Imo indigene say about Okorocha’s achievements? He has wasted eight years in infrastructure and otherwise. Then, it is the same government talking about continuity represented by the Governor’s son-in-law under the pretext of consolidation on what Okorocha has achieved. Then I ask, what are his achievements? All I can say is that it is very unfortunate. On Okorocha’s Urban Renewal programme, sometime after 2015 elections, there was the news that he had given Owerri a facelift but any time I go round the city I ask myself what has he done? He deceives himself a lot. Certainly, he knows that his talks are not based in reality. Owerri has gone backwards. All you need is to go round and see things for yourself. There is a colossal neglect of the city. There is nothing to write home about the so-called Urban Renewal programme.

Message to constituents
They should resist power thirsty and money bag politicians. The power hungry, money bag politicians have not been any good. What they do is to get money and buy votes with peanuts as if they are into merchandise. My constituents should resist them in 2019 elections, especially the youths who usually fall prey to these power mongers. They use them anyhow to bulldoze them into accepting. We can no longer condone. If they continue like this there will be no future for them.

Health
How to sterilize baby bottles
Babies are quite vulnerable to illnesses during their first twelve months, so mothers need to be extra careful. Unsterilized bottles attract bacteria, viruses and parasites that can easily harm your baby. This will make him prone to diseases like thrush, vomiting or diarrhea. Creating an environment for your baby that is entirely free of germs and bacteria is impossible. However, you can still ensure his safety and health by sterilizing the feeding equipment before use.
