I’ll never compose any song to insult President Buhari – Rarara

Kano-based singer and a Hausa artist, Dauda Adamu (popularly called Rarara), who worked tirelessly to mobilise votes for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 and 2019, tells ALIYU ASKIRA in this chitchat that he’s not a happy man. This, according to him, is because a song was released in Kano and Kaduna that insulted the president.

Rarara lamented that due to the similarity in voice some said he was the one that composed the song. He said it was the work of his enemies as he will never even in a dream insult the president.

Is it true that you once composed a song insulting President Buhari?

When I released my famous song, Zuwan Mamalafa Kano, they arrested me and I thank God that after answering a few questions they released me even though I was there for a few days. Most of those who intervened on my behalf are from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) except Governor Kwankwaso who after my release came to my house personally to sympathise with me and my family. Well, I have released other songs since then and I also heard that there was a song in the market which some people said was my song. Honestly, it is not true; you know I will never do that. In fact, I have parted ways with Kwankwaso.

Did Kwankwaso really give N10m after you released Maimalafa?

Well, I released the song Maimalafa, bowler hat; I did it with annoyance. The money in question was supposed to be a grant meant for local governments in Kano, but people did not verify the claim before they went to town with all sorts of noise. What is wrong if through joint accounts the state prudently guided local governments on how to spend their allocations? Now, to the issue of N10 million, the fact that Kwankwaso intervened when I was arrested and personally came to my house to see me is more to me than the N10 million. I am close to him and since then I got a lot from him, but as fate would have it Kwankwaso is no longer my boss. You also said he gave me Benz car; I am comfortable and I had expensive cars before the incident.

For those that don’t know much about you, who is Rarara?

My name is Dauda Adamu; I am from Kahutu village in Danja local government of Katsina state. I have two wives and children; I came to Kano to learn the Qur’an but later as fate would have it I ended up here and I have no regrets. I had Islamic education and I am successful as a musician and partly a politician. I am passionate about President Buhari. Educationally, I did not advance far.

You were the only musician that performed in Kano when President Buhari’s campaign team came to Kano, why?

Forget about money, the ultimate for me was that I entertained Gen. Buhari and his campaign team. You were there and you saw how the crowd which was second to none destroyed our equipment. At a point the giant television showing those in and outside the stadium was crashed; so it was not the money but the excitement and the recognition.

The late Rabilu Musa was your close friend; how would you describe his death now that his fourth year anniversary has come and gone?

May Allah give Ibro Aljannah Firdausi. I lost a friend and brother; I lost a confidante and business partner. The late Rabilu was more than a friend to me, we were very close, we were always together and both of us shared the same Kwankwasiyya philosophy before we left Kwankwaso’s camp and joined Ganduje. In his own way, he was passionate about Kwankwaso’s ambition to be president, but when Buhari emerged as the APC presidential candidate, we both accepted the new reality and I am praying hard to God for President Buhari to have eight years of successful tenure.

You are rich and handsome and I can see some beautiful, young Kannywood female artistes flocking around you. How do you handle that?

What you see here is purely professional; I have a functional office here with staff and other artistes coming to compose their songs. I am busy 24 hours; I don’t have time for women, but of course it’s natural that some may decide to hang around for one reason or the other. And some come here to meet producers that are looking for artistes; I have two wives and children – I am a happy family man. As for relationships, forget, I have gone beyond that level; I am not eyeing any of the young girls here.

You have left behind people like Mahmud Nagudu, Nura Inuwa, Aminu Ala, Maryam Baba, Musbahu Ahmad and Naziru in terms of songs; how successful are you?

No, all those you mentioned are successful singers. Naziru Ahmad Fati Niger and others do political songs, but the rest sing about contemporary issues in society. People like Aminu Ala are highly successful; Nura Inuwa Fati Nigeri I am sure listen to my songs and also listen to their songs. I did not bench anybody; we are in different teams, we are all like one family, we all wish one another well.

How rich is Dauda Adamu aka Rarara?

Well, I am not paying rent; I have my own business outfit – Rarara musical studio. I have choice vehicles, I am comfortable so to speak, but mind you we have richer guys in the industry. All I can say is that I am not doing badly.

Tell us your plans for the future

My plans for the future are; to stay long, to worship God, to continue taking care of my family and my parents and to continue supporting President Buhari to succeed, through my songs.
