Illegal fire arms: We’re going after culprits – CP

Kano state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Rabiu Yusuf, has said his command would be on the trail of those who refused to surrender their fire arms acquired illegally, as directed by the office of the Inspector-General of Police.
Speaking to newsmen at the command’s headquarters in Kano yesterday after inspecting the arms willingly surrendered by some individuals and those confiscated from the hands of hoodlums, Yusuf said he had taken the task of forming a special task force to ensure that the the Inspector-General’s directive is fully complied with.
According t him, the acquisition of illegal arms by some individuals is inimical to the survival and wellbeing of the people, affirming that with the proliferation of the illegal arms, peace could be jeopardised.
He, however, stated that the command was ever ready to recover the illegal fire arms still in the hands of those who refused to surrender them, positing that the law would take its full course on anyone apprehended in possession of the fire arms.
He said operatives of the command had been fully mobilised to keep constant vigil on all entry points leading into Kano to nip crime in the bud, stressing that, with the entry points carefully guarded, the objective could be achieved.
Some of the illegal fire arms recovered included; 37 rifles, 23 pistols, 127 cartridges and 395 rounds of live ammunitions among others.
