Illegal levies: Kwara govt reads riot acts to school principals

The Kwara stare government has warned school principals accross the16 local government area of the state to desist from collection of all kinds of illegal fees in all public secondary schools of the state.

Similarly, the government also debunked insinuations that it had commercilised the appointment of school principals and vice principals in the state’s secondary schools.

The permanent secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Mary Adeosun, handed down the warning to the school principals  during a meeting held with them at Saint Anthony Secondary School Ilorin.

She said any principal caught collecting more than the approved levies by the government will be sanctioned according to the civil service rule.

She listed the approved levies for the schools to include PTA for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) class which according to her, is  N1,450 while those in Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) will pay N1,500. 

According to her, new intake for JSS will pay a fee of N3,930 while new intake for SSS will pay a fee of N3,980.

She said the approved cost of text books for JSS classes is N4,500 and  N5,600 for SSS classes.

The permanent secretary also added that BECE question and answers will cost N1,800.

She announced that government is to provide reading textbooks to pupils at the primary level through the SUBEB, a step she said underscores the commitment of the administration to basic education.
