I’m getting married soon, bye-bye to Kannywood – Maryam Isah

Maryam Isah is a 28-year-old actress and half sister to former Kannywood actress, Mansura Isah, the wife of Kannywood and Nollywood actor and producer, Sani Danja. She joined Kannywood about a year ago when her sister Mansura, her brother-in-law Sani Danja and other stakeholders in Kannywood convinced her that she had what it takes to be a successful actress. She is friendly, fluent in English and Hausa. In this interview with ALIYU ASKIRA in Kano, Maryam Isah opens up on her marriage proposals which is in the offing.

Who is Maryam Isah? Are you related to Mansura Isah?
My name is Maryam Isah and Mansura Isah is my half sister. She is actually one of those that convinced me to join Kannywood. And then her husband Sani Danja. I am proud of her because people have this notion that Kannywood actresses don’t make success of their marriages but my sister has proved them wrong by making success of her marriage.

How long have you been acting?
Well, like I told you my brother in-law, Sani Danja is a successful actor, producer and business man including politic. My half sister, Mansura Isah has also played a prominent role in Kannywood before she got married. Her children are also already acting. So when I joined the industry about a year ago, I did not find it difficult to succeed. As we speak, I have several films to my credit. I also featured in other successful films as lead actress, and honesty am very grateful to the producers, directors and my colleagues – actors and actresses.

How about marriage? Your sister got married young. Don’t you want to tow the same line, are you at all thinking of settling down?
Yes, I am getting married to a man I love. I used to address him as Alhaji only, on 27th of this month, 2017, the kauyawa night will be held at Gidan Dan Hausa, Kano on 25th, then reception will hold at Bompai St. Louis, and I am using this medium to invite all those that did not get my invitation card to come and witness the wedding ceremony.

Are you going to continue with acting?
No, remember my elder sister Mansura Isah was very popular in Kannywood but after her marriage, which is very successful, she quit acting and produced films from time to time so I will take after her.

Tell us your saddest and happiest moments in Kannywood?
None, but of course I have several good news to tell because Kannywood made me what  I am. And about saddest moments, we lost people like Aisha Dan Kano, Rabilu Musa Ibro, people that one was opportune to work with them and when you hear that they are no more of course you will feel sad. So these are some things that happened which made me sad. As for happy moments, whenever I meet people and they tell me that am a very good actress I use to feel happy, and when am with my colleagues and hear them talking good of me I used to be happy.
