I’m God’s anointed for Bayelsa gov poll –Okoko

A governorship aspirant in the November 16 governorship election in Bayelsa state, Keniebi Okoko, has said his is the God’s anointed candidate to move the state forward.

Okoko, who stated this Friday after he purchased his expression of interest and nomination forms at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headquarters in Abuja, said he would focus more on job creation to reduce the level of unemployment in the state and build on the legacies of the incumbent Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson.

“I am anointed by God, I do not know about any cabal. I do not think there is cabal in Bayelsa state chapter of PDP.  If you are anointed by God, it is the most important anointing. PDP has always run a free and fair election in Bayelsa and I do not think there is any cabal in Bayelsa that will anoint any candidate, he said.”

The aspirant, who also commended Dickson for his achievements especially in the area of education, said: “Development is a consistent process. It is dynamic. With regards to what happens in my state, I am satisfied to a large extent with what the governor has done with the resources available to him.

He continued: “If you look at what he has done in education, it is next to none. We have about two more universities that he has created: Medical University and African University in Torowa. He also recently launched the Educational Trust Fund to try to encourage people to have more access to educational fund for further education outside the country.

“I plan to continue with his dynamic strides and also increase the level of industrialisation in the state, bring in Public Private Partnership (PPP) and more investors to the state.

“Bayelsa state is not unique in crime in Nigeria today. Crime is universal, it is happening in Kaduna, Lagos, Rivers, Zamfara.  There is no singular solution to it. But the most pertinent thing is that if the youth are employed and they are gainfully employed, it reduces crime.

“The governor has tried to create employment.  We intend to increase job opportunities, bring in more companies and more job opportunities. I will also talk to International Oil Companies (IOCs) that are in the state to look at our qualified youths and indigenes of the state that are ready to work, to give them more opportunities.”
