I’m not vying for Senate to share money –Tijani

Aliyu Ahmed Tijani is Commissioner for Education and an aspirant for Nasarawa West Senatorial District on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In this interview with Uji Abdullahi Iliyasu, he says he is not new to Nasarawa politics because he has been there been for 39 years.
Excerpts:

How to you hope to reciprocate the gesture of the supporters in your senatorial district? I am currently the Commissioner for Education, Nasarawa state.
My coming into this race, that is, the race for Nasarawa West Senatorial District seat is to ensure that the teeming population of jobless youths who are scattered in the district and all over the country are productively engaged.
There is the need to make sure that these groups of jobless youths are provided adequate opportunity to earn a living and thus ensure are involved in productive ventures.
With that they can take care of themselves and their families.
As lawmakers, we can only do that by creating enabling laws that will make the government of President Muhammadu Buhari show that they care for the youths.
You must note that most supporters of the ruling APC Aliyu Ahmed Tijani is Commissioner for Education and an aspirant for Nasarawa West Senatorial District on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In this interview with Uji Abdullahi Iliyasu, he says he is not new to Nasarawa politics because he has been there been for 39 years.
Excerpts: are the youth and the women.
Therefore, we should make sure that we reciprocate their loyalty by providing for them ample opportunities to support their desire to be useful to themselves and secure their livelihood.
Luckily, the government of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has launched a number of programmes which have been taking care of these groups.
The introduction of school feeding has provided Nigerians from sundry works of life especially Nigerian women, the mothers of the nation who have been greatly supportive of the administration from inception.
In the Senate, we will make sure that we come up with legislature to enhance the welfare of Nigerian citizens.

How prepared are you for the primary election? I don’t have the means to provide food for any delegate.
But I have a conscience to sell to them.
I also have integrity to sell to the delegates.
I have been in public service since 2011.
I had been secretary to the Nasarawa local government council.
I had served as chairman of the local government council.
I had also served as commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs before taking the present job as the commissioner for education.
We build wealth but we don’t distribute wealth.
We generate money to build infrastructure.
My vying for Senate is not to share money but to provide infrastructure.
I don’t have to buy delegates but I can use my conscience and integrity which women and youths in my senatorial district appreciate going by the support they are giving me.

What do you hope to do differently? If elected I hope to provide enabling working environment and employment for the youth and ensure that I attract federal projects to my community.
The governor of Nasarawa state Tanko Al-Makura has shown us the light in the state.
By the time you put in the necessary infrastructure, you have developed the area.
So if voted into power, my priority is women and youth empowerment.
So, to buy votes is out of the question.
The money is not even there to do that.
Don’t you think declaring your ambition late could affect your chances in the polls? It will give me even brighter chances to win the election because I am not new in politics.
I have been playing politics since 1979, about 39 years ago.
I had served in the local government level and state level.
And I have been doing my best as a public servant.
I have a lot of concern for the youths.
We have, in the state, empowered more than 2000 youths through the help and assistance of state governor, Tanko Al-makura.

What is your message to the delegates? I am not going to disappoint the delegates who will vote for me.
I will use their votes adequately and effectively for the development of the district and Nigeria as a whole.
Though I will represent Nasarawa West, I will be there to make laws for Nigeria as a whole.
