Imo assembly moves to recover Eastern Palm University

In its resolve to recover whatever that belongs to the state from the out-gone government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the Imo State House of Assembly led by Rt.Hon. Chiji Collins has resolved to establish the status of the Eastern Palm University at Ogboko, the home town of erstwhile governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

To this effect, an adhoc committee has been set up to carry out an investigation on the matter.

Members are expected to establish the ownership of the university, know whether some investors put in money in its establishment, know whether Imo State’s money was used in establishing it and ascertain the legality for setting it up.

The lawmaker representing Aboh Mbaise State constituency, Hon Eddy Obinna, had earlier moved the motion urging the house to carry out a thorough investigation on the matter.

He recalled that the 8th House of Assembly had approved the former name, Imo European University but when the license was to be issued, the erstwhile governor went and collected it all alone, with the new name, Eastern Palm University and later appointed his personal staff as its Vice Chancellor.

The honourable member representing Ihitte Uboma State constituency, Hon Mike Onyemaechi supported the motion.

He said the move was necessary especially now the present government had made its intention to recover the state’s stolen property known to the people.

The motion was widely supported by the lawmakers.
