Imo Assembly summons NDLEA, state orientation agency on drug abuse

Following the involvement of the youth of Imo state on drug related activities, the state House of Assembly has invited the state Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Director General of Imo State Orientation Agency (ISOA) to brief lawmakers on the programmes they have so far carried out to discourage youth from taking to hard drugs.

A motion to that effect was sponsored by Hon Arthur Egwim of Ideato North state constituency Monday.

In his motion, Hon Egwim harped on the need to check the excesses of the youth who engage in hard drugs and urged government to set up rehabilitation centres in the three zones of the state to take care of them since they are leaders of tomorrow.

He added that their abuse of drugs had led to their involvement in many questionable behaviours and activities and that if the trend was not checked, it would have devastating effect on them in particular  and the state in general.

The motion was unanimously supported by other members who lamented that drug abuse had put the youth of their constituencies in a state of jeopardy.
