Imo Commissioner in Hospital after robbery attack


The Commissioner for Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition in Imo State, Hon Ikechukwu Umeh is reportedly receiving treatment in an unknown hospital in the state after his encounter with armed robbers Sunday night.


Our correspondent gathered that the robbery incident at Orji, Owerri North area started when the gunmen trailed an unmarked vehicle carrying the commissioner and later shot at him.

They also shot sporadically while leaving the scene which left many passers by injured.

The incident had earlier been confirmed by the PPRO of the Imo Police Command, Orlando Ikokwu.


Meanwhile, another shootout has been reported at the busy Douglas Road, Mbaise Road and Lagos Street areas of Owerri capital city.

The shootout was between unknown gunmen and soldiers.

Gunshots were heard between 9 and 10 pm and it lasted for two hours during which passers by scampered for safety.

As at the time of filing this report, the number of casualties, if any, was not yet known.
