General Manager, Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO), Hon. Henry Ike, has said that the state had advanced after 38 years of existence.
He stated this in Owerri in commemoration of the 38th year anniversary of Imo state which is currently being celebrated. Ike regretted that most of the years the state had passed through were managed by military governors and as a result, the people did not get the desired democracy dividends as was being done “today because power was not given to the people.”
“In as much as I do not condemn the past leaders who had contributed in one way or the other towards the advancement of the state, I believe if you have the future of the people in your bone marrow you will perform,” he said.
Commenting on the performance of ENTRACO, the general manager said the commission was set up to evacuate wastes to ensure the cleanliness of the state, especially Owerri, the capital.
According to him, the Commission made it clear that refuse or rubbish should be taken to dump sites between 7pm and 10am, so that cleaning and disposal exercise would start by 11am.
“But unfortunately, people do not cooperate with the commission on that simple directive.”
Speaking on the state refuse recycling plant, he said foreign partners who wanted to set up one could not do it because, according to them, the state did not have enough wastes to recycle. He, however, assured that more disposal equipment and vehicles would be procured to enhance disposal.
