Imo: NERC, EEDC assure electricity consumers of quality power supply 

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) have assured electricity consumers in Imo state of their readiness to handle every power distribution complaints brought to their notice.

The assurance was given during a Consumers’ Complaints Resolution meeting otherwise referred to as Consumer Complaints Redress Mechanism held in Owerri weekend.

Speaking at the meeting, the NERC commissioner, Aisha Mahmud, said the purpose of the meeting was to educate the public on the workings of the commission and get their complaints resolved.

She added that some of the electricity regulations were being reviewed and would be uploaded at the end of the review exercise and assured that NERC would handle some of the complaints on the spot, while the technical ones would be taken care of later.

Also speaking, the chief executive officer of EEDC, Mr. Praveen Chorghade, said the company had the interest of their customers at heart and would seek means of solving all the power challenges facing them.

He appealed to the consumers to support EEDC in the discharge of their responsibility and also protect EEDC installations to ensure  quality power supply.

He also advised them on the issue of  complaints of high billing, urging them to always ask for the credit position of the building they are moving into to avoid transfer of old debt to them as new occupants.

The EEDC boss added that there should be a high level of trust between EEDC and its customers, and advised for prompt payment of bills to avoid disconnections and to enable the company serve them better.
