Parts of the bills of no fewer than seven most indigent patients at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, were on Tuesday offset by the Imo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Blueprint learnt that the gesture was informed by the visit of the state chairman of the party, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, to the Centre some weeks ago, when some members who had an auto crash while travelling to Enugu for the South-east rally  were rushed to the place.

After commiserating with affected members and wishing them speedy recovery, he discovered that many people were also hospitalised for different health problems, mostly the indigent. This made the party to decide urgently to offset their bills.

The state deputy chairman, General S.N. Chikwe (rtd) alongside the state woman leader, Lady Nkechi Mbonu; Youth Leader, Okey Ezurike; and the acting state publicity secretary, Chief Enyinnaya Onuegbu, represented the party during the visit and were received by Dr Ajonuma Benneth who stood in for the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Centre, Dr Angela Uwakwem.

Patients who benefited from the party’s humanitarian gesture were Mrs Amarachi Judith whose N30,000 cost for three pints of blood was offset; Kasarachi Mbakwe, who was suffering from neurological disorder and malnutrition. She was given the sum of N40,000; Other beneficiaries were Mr Christian Osuorji whose leg was caught off as a result of severe diabetics, N40,000; Chidinma Duruji, a 16-year-old girl who gave births to twin boys after being gang-raped by two randy boys, N40,000; Ogbodo Emilia who  gave birth to a new born baby, N24,000; Iwuagwu Ugochi, also for her baby,N40,000; and Nkechi Egboaka, a kidney patient, N36,000.
Chikwe had assured the FMC management that the party would pay another visit to the patients in the nearest future.
