Imo Police gets new CP

The acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Baba, has appointed a new Commissioner of Police for Imo state.

He is CP Abutu Yaro.

A statement made available to Blueprint in Owerri, Imo state capital by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Orlando Ikokwu, said CP Yaro would be taking over from CP Nasiru Mohammed who was deployed to the state in January 2021.

Under Mohammed, police stations State Police Command headquarters and the Nigeria Correctional Centre in the state had been under repeated attacks which led to escape of nearly 2000 inmates of the prison facility.

The statement described Yaro who is a fellow of the National Defence Academy and the Commissioner of Police Zamfara State Command as “an operationally minded cop.”

Meanwhile, Mohammed has been redeployed to Western Port Authority, Lagos.
