Imo power bike POS robber killed

Imo Police Thursday killed a notorious power bike armed robber who belongs to a gang that robs POS operators in Imo state.

This followed a tip-off from residents of Egbu, Owerri North areas on sighting the armed robbers during operations.

Our correspondent gathered that immediately the report on power bike POS armed robbers was received, the Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, drafted the command’s tactical teams to the areas for an undercover operation to detect and arrest the hoodlums committing these crimes. 

“After series of discreet information gathering, luck ran against the hoodlums at about 1600 hours, when the teams received a distress call, that hoodlums using two power bikes were seen robbing POS operators at Egbu in Owerri North LGA of Imo state. The command’s tactical teams immediately raced to the scene. On sighting the police, the hoodlums sped off with their power bikes, shooting at them. The police retaliated, giving them a hot chase and in the process, one of the hoodlums was gunned down, while others escaped with bullet wounds. Frantic efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing suspects”, the media aide to the commissioner, CSP Mike Abattam, further stated.

Items recovered from them, he said, included: one black power bike with registration number IMO, AFR 387 OJ  and a locally made double barrel pistol with 7 rounds of live cartridges.
