Imo residents slam Buhari over marginalization comment

Some residents in Imo state have disagreed with President Muhammadu Buhari who reportedly said that he only got about 198,000 votes from the South East in 2015. He was also quoted as saying that he still went ahead and appointed them ministers of the Federal Republic ofNigeria.

A youth activist, Onyeka James and a politician, Ibe Anyanwu faulted. The president by reminding him that ministerial positions are one of the Federal Character provisions in the F constitution of Nigeria and therefore should not be considered as a favour from the president.

They recalled that before the ministerial appointments, the president wanted to cut down the number of ministerial positions so as to sideline the South easterners, but the Senate came in and reminded him

that it was a constitutional matter.

With the above position, Onyeka and Ibe asked: “ Why did the President not appoint a South Easterner as a service chief or Secretary to the Government of the Federation(SGF)? Or why did he exempt Igbos in his recent appointments and railway projects which aresupposed to be for the development of the entire country, especially when a substantial amount of money comes from oil that is produced inthe zone?”

They advised the president to defend himself and show reason why the zone should vote for him in this year’s election after considering them unfit for such favours. They added that the previous governments did not treat zones which did not vote for them as Buhari is doing.
