Imo speaker satisfied with election of principal officers

Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, Chiji Collins, has said he is satisfied that Tuesday ‘s House of Assembly elections into some principal offices was peacefully conducted.

The speaker who made it clear that the elections were not strange, described the exercise as “normal”, adding that it had to be conducted in order to produce some new officers in the house to reflect the current state of affairs.

He further described the exercise as an” About Turn” made in the house after the Supreme Court verdict against former governor, Emeka Ihedioha in favour of Senator Hope Uzodinma.

Chiji Collins who said he stood as the link between the old and the young, assured that he would cooperate with those who emerged like he had always done in the past, because none of them was sent to the house to fight but to work towards the progress and advancement of their constituencies in particular and Imo state in general.

The new officers are: Hon.Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu of Nwangele state constituency, Deputy Speaker; Hon.Uche Ogbuagu of Ikeduru state constituency, Majority Leader; Hon Arthur Egwim of Ideato North constituency Chief Whip and Hon. Emeka Nduka of Ehima Mbano, Deputy Majority leader.

Meanwhile, the speaker has described the safety measures taken against Corona Virus Pandemic in the Assembly Complex as “answer to the current health challenges currently ravaging the world.” And that the measures such as washing of hands, wearing of  face kits and rubbing of sanitisers were enforced in the premises to keep the virus away.
