Imo ward congress: Okorocha mulls alternative platform

Following the outcome of last Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Imo State which did not favour Governor Rochas Okorocha’s faction of the party, the governor has initiated clandestine moves to secure a veritable platform that would pave way for his group to sail through in the 2019 general elections. According to a reliable source in the Government House who confided in our correspondent, Okorocha was jolted by the outcome of the party’s ward congress that he is seriously considering leaving the ship for the ‘allied forces’.
The source said the Governor and his foot soldiers are not comfortable with the “Allied Forces ” comprising the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, Senator Ben Uwajumogu, Senator Osita Izunaso, Senator Hope Uzodinma, former Secretary to State Government, Sir Jude Ejiogu, his Information counterpart, Mr T.O.E. Ekechi , APC State Chairman, Chief Hilary Eke etc. The source hinted that Okorocha may likely move to a smaller party where he hopes to deploy the machinery of state to mobilise and galvanise support for his favoured candidates. However, the decision to relocate with his supporters would depend on the positions of loyal party leaders and stakeholders, and the verdict of the Appeals Panel.
It would be recalled that the Governor and his son-law, Hon Uche Nwosu, who is his favoured candidate for the 2019 gubernatorial ticket, were alleged to have before the ward congress stormed the headquarters of the party demanding to be allowed to take over the political structure.
