Impeachment: Edo youths ask Senator to apologise to Buhar

The Edo South Coalition group has handed out a 48-hour ultimatum to Senator Mathew Uroghide to apologies over his impeachment motion of President Muhammadu Buhari during plenary on Thursday.
The group, which marched through some major streets in Benin City, also threatened to begin a process of recalling the Senator if he fails to withdraws his statement. Leader of the protesters, Hon. Ehis Odiase said: “having reviewed the circumstance resulting in the motion for impeachment moved by Senator Matthew Uroghide of the PDP, we have come to understand that he did not consult the Edo people whom he claimed to represent.”
Further, the group it was constrained to note that the move by Senator Matthew is self-seeking and borne out of selfish motives which are not in tandem with the wish of Edo people in the South Senatorial Zone. Odiase, the leader of the group, reiterated that Edo people are in support of the anti- corruption fight of Mr. President, adding “corruption is the bane of Nigeria’s development and any action to the contrary is anti democratic”. Senator Matthew Uroghide in a telephone interview however said the protesters were ignorant of the law and the workings at the national assembly.
Also, the chairman of Edo State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Dan Orbih commended the Senator for his bold step at the national assembly. “Edo PDP has been watching with keen interest the goings-on in the nation especially the state of insecurity and the illegal withdrawal and spending of state resources without following due and constitutionally prescribed process”, Orbih said.
