Impeachment notice: Kogi dep gov drags Assembly to court

The deputy governor of Kogi state, Simon Achuba, has dragged the state’s House of Assembly to court over the impeachment notice served on him.

Ochuba filed the application before the high court sitting in Lokoja, the capital of the state.

It was learnt that the date for the hearing is, however, yet to be fixed by the court. It would be recalled that Achuba had been at loggerheads with his principal, Governor Yahaya Bello, over an alleged political difference.

The state Assembly had served impeachment proceeding notice on the deputy governor over allegations of criminal indulgence, financial misappropriation and non-performance.

Achuba had alleged that Bello was after his life, claiming that the governor had mobilised gunmen to attack him.

He had also threatened to sue the governor over alleged withholding of his salaries and all other financial benefits from 2017 till date. In a letter addressed to the governor, Achuba’s lawyer, Femi Falana, said if the allowances were not paid within seven days, he would be left with no option other than to approach the court.

According to the letter, the backlog of travel allowances, hotel bills, pledges and outstanding monthly imp rest and salaries entitled to him amounts to N819,709,980.
