Improved airport infrastructure will stimulate growth – RMG/CCDI

The national coordinator, Rights Monitoring Group and Country Director, Centre for Convention on Democratic Integrity (RMG/CCDI), Mr. Olufemi Aduwo, has said that the five new airport terminals planned for Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt and Enugu airports as well as the 13 cargo airport terminals would transform the aviation sector and accelerate domestic tourism.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Lagos yesterday, Aduwo who commended the federal government for the initiative to revamp airport facilities noted that the sector “has been moved to the next level” adding that “it has been positioned to be a major revenue earner for the country.”
He also commended the aerotropolis concept saying it would stimulate businesses within the location of an airport.
“Aerotropolis encompasses a range of commercial facilities supporting by both aviation linked business and tourism related business. It will create jobs and reduce unemployment for Nigerians. Besides, air travellers and airport users will do shopping conveniently,” he said.
On the establishment of a national carrier, the RMG/CCDI coordinator declared: “We support the idea of a national airline without the involvement of the federal government. It should serve as a Nigerian national flag carrier without. Such an airline should be listed in the stock exchange where you and I can actually invest in the business which functions like other international airlines.”
