In Akwa Ibom, flag goes down as PDP declares one week mourning for late Chairman

The Akwa Ibom state of People Democratic Party (PDP) has declared a one-week period of mourning in honour of its late Chairman, Mr Udo Ekpenyong.
This was contained in a statement signed by the state deputy Chairman of the party, Hon. Lawrence Udosen, on behalf of the State Working Committee (SWC) and made available to newsmen in Uyo on Tuesday.
The SWC directed that all PDP flags in the state secretariat complex of the party, the chapter and ward offices must be flown at half mast.

According to the committee, “no demonstration of grief will ever be befitting to a selfless, hardworking and forward-thinking leader like the late Udo Ekpenyong.”
The party prayed God Almighty to give the deceased family grace to bear the irreparable lost as they go through the period of grief.

Part of the statement reads, “In line with the lingering mood of grief that the Peoples Democratic Party has been thrown into as a result of the death of the State Party Chairman, the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong, the State Working Committee (SWC), of our party hereby declares a one-week period of mourning in honour of the departed chairman.

“The one week period of mourning begins effectively immediately.
“To reflect this mood, the SWC further directs that all PDP flags in the State Secretariat Complex of our party as well as those at the Chapter and Ward offices must be flown at half mast.
“For a selfless and forward-thinking leader like the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong, no demonstration of grief will ever be too much.

“Again, it is our prayer that the special grace of God will be sufficient towards the bereaved family as they wade through this period of excruciating grief.”
The SWC however, urged all members of the party to continue to stay safe and strictly observe Covid-19 safety protocols.
