In Anambra, Police nab Kidnap kingpin, 7 years after

Anambra Police Command, Wednesday, said it have arrested a suspected kidnap kingpin, Mr Matthew Nwankwo, who has been on the run for over seven years.

The Assistant Police Commissioner, Mr Joseph Agugoesi, who disclosed this in Awka, noted that the suspect who was declared wanted seven years ago, was a member of a notorious kidnap gang that has been terrorising the state during the regime of governor Willie Obiano.

According to him, Nwankwo whose team had been taken up to N70 million from their victims, disappeared when his colleagues were arrested but later reappeared in the state probably hoping to enjoy heaven since next administration has taken off.

He said he was arrested on Tuesday at Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area following a tip off to the State Police Command.

While recalling that the suspect’s house was destroyed along that of his gang members at Nteje and Umueri respectively when he was on the run, he added that his gang members such as Mr Solomon Chibuzor Morah aka Mmili and Hyacinth Chibudu equally had their houses demolished.

Also speaking, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the suspect has been confined to the police custody, while further investigations continues.
