In Anambra, Resident doctors set to join strike over unpaid COVID-19 allowances

Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in the Anambra state government owned  Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching hospital (COOUTH), has vowed to embark on industrial action on September 30 over unpaid COVID-19 hazard and inducement allowance.

President of ARD-COOUTH, Dr Obinna Aniagboso, told Blueprint in an interview that members of the association working at various isolation (protective) centres in the state have been complaining of stressful works despite unpaid allowances including shortage of medical doctors in all the General hospital across the state and non implementation of other demands of the association.

Aniagboso, who expressed displeasure over the state government refusal to meet their demands in the current situation in the country, said the strike action once commenced would only be called off when the government hearken to their cries.
“Our colleagues in Nassarawa, Lagos, Benue, Oyo, Ogun Enugu and almost all the states in Northern Nigeria, have been receiving theirs, except in Anambra state. As an association, we believe in dialogue as a means of dispute resolution and we have always stood by this principle in all our dealings with the government of the day even in the face of financial burden.

“I am appealing to governor Willie Obiano to also extend his good heart towards us in view to resolving all pending issues, so as to maintain industrial harmony in the state, he stated. To the public, we regret any inconveniences this might cause Anambra residents needing healthcare delivery during this period,” he said.
