In Borno, PDP suspends officers over ‘illegal’ assembly 

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno state on Monday rose from its extraordinary meeting under the chairmanship of Alhaji Zanna Gaddama and recommended sanction against some party officials involved in unlawful assembly.

The chapter said the unlawful assembly which suspended some party officials was an attempt to cause confusion, disunity and disaffection as well possible break down of law and order using the social media.

A statement by the PDP state chairman, Alhaji Zanna Gaddama Mustapha, said “the publication showed that the state chairman, Alh. Zanna Gaddama Mustapha was suspended by few members of the executives describing it as “illegal and unconstitutional”.

The party also warned that “the party “will not allow some fifth columnists to undermine the success of the party in the next coming general elections but only to allow any right thinking member of any political party to ensure unity at this crucial time.”

“The meeting today which was summoned by the party state secretary on the directives of the state chairman and had in attendance the state chairman, state secretary and members of the state working and executive.”

Others in attendance were the 27 Local Government Chairmen, party flag bearers, stakeholders, supporters and other members of the party, among others in accordance with section 35 and 36 of our party’s constitution. 

The meeting decided as follows: “After an extensive discussion at the meeting, six out of the state  party executive officials have been said to commit gross violations, misconduct and a lot of illegalities against the party’s constitution by breaching  provisions of section 36 (1) (a) and (b) of the party’s constitution which gives  power to  only the state secretary of party as a chief executive officer to call for a party  meeting.

“And also Section 35 (1) (a) & (d) that gives power to the Chairman to summon and preside over a party meeting. Apart from these  two categories of people, nobody is entitled to summon for a  party meeting and even suspend a party official. 

“In addition, the party observes that the six executives of the party had formed a forum which committed a serious offence as stated by provisions of Section 58 (1) (a, b, c, d, f, g, h, I, j, k of the party constitution.

“On this note, the party resolved as follows that Alhaji Bunu AG Satomi is hereby suspended as the State Deputy Chairman, Mr. Peter Sabo to replace and oversee the office affairs of his office pending investigation.

It also said the State Legal Adviser, Barr Abdu Jidda, is hereby suspended and replaced by Barr Ali Azur, effective from now and to oversee the office affairs of the Legal Officer pending the investigation.

The statement said Hon Kaka Shettima was to replace and oversee the office affairs of Babakura Zanna pending Investigation, while Abba Gana Kalumi to replace Alhaji Massa Goni Kukawa and oversee the office affairs pending Investigation.

Mohammed Bukar Ballah is to replace Hon Muhammad Sanusi and to oversee the office affairs pending Investigation, while Mallam Umar Abubakar Shani is to replace Umar Bello to oversee the office affairs pending investigations.

The party warned the public to disregard information that does not emanate from the state publicity secretary or his assistant as the party would not hesitate to initiate legal proceedings against those spreading news that would tarnish cause disharmony with the party.
