In Edo, frustrated patient stabs self to death

An angry patient has reportedly stabbed himself to death at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Edo State.

The patient whose name could not be ascertained was said have been rushed to the accident occurred at the Accident and Emergency (A & E) Ward of the hospital by his wife on Saturday night for medicare.

A source at the hospital said the patient, a male allegedly took his own life while waiting for doctors attention at the facility.

The man reportedly broke a louvre at the hospital’s window and repeatedly stabbed himself.

Wife of the deceased patient was said to have gone on an errand when he committed the suicide.

The development reportedly  triggered a protest by other patients at the ward over what they described as lack of exigent attention for patients.

However, the hospital sources claimed the man might have taken his life after his diagnosis showed that he had terminal ailment.

Spokesman for UBTH, Mr. Joshua Uwaila, confirmed the incident and described it as ”unfortunate”.

According to Uwadmila, ”an unfortunate incident happened on Saturday night 13th July, 2019 at about 10:30 pm.

”A young man who was a patient at the male medical ward of our hospital ( diagnosis not disclosed for confidentiality sake), suddenly broke a louvre and stabbed himself. 

”All efforts to resuscitate him  proved abortive as he was certified dead at 11:00 pm. The result of autopsy is being awaited at the moment.”
