In Kaduna, CCB tasks civil servants on total compliance, service delivery

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on Tuesday urged career civil servants, appointed and elected government officials to comply totally with all the stipulated codes of conducts to ensure effective service delivery.
According to the Bureau, filling of form for asset declaration is just one step in the codes, each official needs to understand other underlying issues such as not coning late to the office, not leaving office before closing time, doing one’s duties at work, not denying others their rights such as promotion and so on.

CCB Kaduna State Director, Malam Yusuf Mohammed, who disclosed this while addressing a two-day workshop on strict compliance with assets declaration and code of conduct for Nigerian public officers, said the code has received many petitions against public officers and is looking into the veracity of the allegations.
“We are here to sensitise elected and appointed public officials and employed civil servants, to add more knowledge to the do’s and don’ts. We want total compliance because filling of forms for declaration of assets is not all. Each official should understand the issue of coming late to office, going home before closing time, denying officials their promotion.

“Career civil servants is where we are having little challenge that is why we have desk officers in all the local governments, each of the ministries, departments and agencies to ensure that whatever is ours should be given to us. You as the declarant, you are willing to declare the  truth, which is why we are sensitising the public officials to guide against under declaring and over declaring.
“We have received lots of petitions and we look at them if they have any substance, we pish to the investigative department. You can see the outcome with properties that are being seized across the country.

Mohammed however commended the Kaduna state government for complying with the Bureau’s codes. “Kaduna is a compliant state with the positive attitude of government. Kaduna state government will only swear in a government official after declaring his assets and tendering the acknowledgement slip.”

The CCB Director of Education and Advocacy Services, Mr Obi Chijioke, said the essence of the workshop is to influence the way public officials do their work. “They are put through on how to fill their forms, for whoever did not declare and those who made mistakes, the law will take its course.”
Also speaking, a consultant with the Bureau, Mr Olukanmi Ayokanmi, said the workshop is another way of fighting corruption. “The workshop is meant to educate the people, simplify the codes, explain what the codes stand for and clear the doubts.”
