In Kaduna, gunmen attack Emir of Birnin Gwari’s convoy

 

Armed bandits on Tuesday attacked the convoy of the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Zubairu Jibril Mai Gwari.
Blueprint learnt that the monarch’s convoy, was attacked at Kaduna – Birnin Gwari highway while on its way to Kaduna on Tuesday evening.
The Emir was however, not in any of the vehicles during the attack, according to a witness.
The Emir’s driver, Umar Jibril, while confirming the incident on Wednesday told journalists that the 73-year-old monarch was elsewhere when the attack took place.


He said, “the bandits had appeared in front of our vehicles which were in transit with their guns and threw tree branches on the road in an attempt to block the road and force us to stop.
“We did not stop, they targeted me, since I was driving and shot at me but as Allah will have it, the bullet missed my head.”


He said apart from minor injuries sustained from shattered glasses, no one was injured.
Birnin Gwari alongside Giwa, Chikun and Igabi are four local government areas of Kaduna state suffering from spate of kidnapping, banditry and acts of cattle rustling.
