In Kaduna, SWAN mourns demise of ex-sports commissioner Bityong

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kaduna state chapter has expressed shock over the death of former two-term Kaduna state Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Yakubu Bityong Nkom.

Speaking in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its Secretary, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, SWAN said Bityong’s untimely death came at a time he was still actively contributing to the development of sports in the state.

“We are deeply saddened about the news of the sudden demise of a sportsman to the core, Hon. Yakubu Nkom Bityong.

“We received the news in rude shock and cannot help but reminisce upon his tremendous contributions to sports development not only in our state Kaduna, but the entire country,” it stated.

SWAN therefore, expressed heartfelt condolences to the immediate  family of Hon. Bityong, Kaduna state Athletics Association, Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) and the entire government and people of Kaduna state.

Hon. Bityong, whose demise was announced Friday night/early Saturday, served as Chairman House Committee on Sports in the immediate past Kaduna state House of Assembly and was Chairman of Kaduna state Athletics Association until his death.
