In Nasarawa, councillors impeach Obi LG Boss

The legislative chamber of Obi local government council of Nasarawa state Monday, impeached the council’s executive chairman, Mohammed Eyigye Iyamoga.

One of the councillors, representing Obi ward, Matthew Simon Odunaga, confirmed the impeachment.
According to him, eight out of 10 councillors of the local government council voted and endorsed the impeachment.

He said after they impeached the chairman, thugs were mobilised to beat and smash their cars, which they left and fled Obi to Lafia, the state capital which is 32km.
“We have many complaints of alleged breach of the constitution by the impeached chairman, Iyamoga.
“The constitution provides that he has to consult the legislature for any expenditure above N500,000 but he has not. He did not present the budget for 2020 and the year is ending,” he said.
Mr. Odunaga said when they demanded to sit in the development area secretariat, because the personnel were conducting biometric data capture, the chairman denied them the mace.
When contacted, the embattled chairman did not respond.
