In Nasarawa, Gov. Sule charges NASIEC on free, fair LG election

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa has charged the Nasarawa state Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) to put machinery in place for a free, fair, and credible local government elections in on October 6, 2021.

He gave the charge while unveiling NASIEC 2021 regulations Wednesday in Lafia preparatory to the conduct of the elections in the state.

He therefore cautioned the commission not to align itself with any political party, candidate or interest, no matter the odds.

“As an electoral body, the commission must exercise neutrality and objectivity in the conduct of its statutory mandate.

“I believe that the presentation of the NASIEC regulations 2021 today is in furtherance of the commission’s determination to ensure the conduct of a credible election in line with the global best practices,” he said.

He explained further that the documents will regulate the conduct of election, operations and other internal mechanism necessary for the enhancement of the independence of the Nasarawa state Independent Electoral Commission.

Sule commended the commission for being one of the few states in Nigeria to come up with the internal regulatory mechanism that will ensure the smooth functioning of the electoral umpire in the state.
