In Nasarawa, monarch donates 16-hectare farmland to NYSC


Nasarawa state government has promised more support for the NYSC in its quest to support the federal government’s agenda on the diversification of the economy, and also improving agricultural practice, food production and self-sufficiency.

The deputy governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, stated this Saturday in  Doma during the inauguration of 16 hectares of farmland donated by the Andoma of Doma HRM Alhaji (Dr) Ahmadu Aliyu Oga Onawo, to NYSC and the inauguration of 2021 farming season by corps members in Doma.

He commended the monarch for supporting the vision of the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim by releasing the land to encourage agricultural practices that would lead to bumper harvest of different agricultural products.

Speaking through the Nasarawa state Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Professor Alanana Otaki, the deputy governor appealed to corps members to embrace all opportunities of the value chain agri-business for their empowerment.

General Ibrahim stated that the scheme would continue to train corps members who are interested in farming by using its farms across the country.

The NYSC boss commended Doma Kingdom and the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority for their kind gesture towards the scheme.

He said the NYSC scheme has keyed into federal government’s agenda of diversification of the economy and would continue to leverage on the potential of corps members for improved productivity and self-discovery.

“I want to urge Corps Members to key into this opportunity for self development.

“Recently, National Agricultural Land Development  Authority (NALDA) in conjuction with the NYSC and Borno state government trained 68 corps members as soil doctors and extension service workers with a view to boosting agricultural production,” he said.

In his goodwill message, the Andoma of Doma said food security was a necessity for every nation, adding that there was the need for corps members to embrace farming as an alternative to salary jobs.

He therefore, commended NYSC DG for redesigning the future of Nigerian youths with a new beginning for self-empowerment.

The monarch appealed for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, saying that the strength of a nation lies in its unity and no tribe can exist independently on its own.

“There is no alternative to an indivisible Nigeria, we are better together.

“Let us save ourselves and make Nigeria a peaceful country for the future of unborn generations,” he said.

In his goodwill message, the member representing Nasarawa/Toto constituency in the Federal House of Representatives,  Honourable Abdulmumini Ari, applauded General Ibrahim for his exemplary leadership style since assuming duty as NYSC DG.

The Managing Director, Lower Benue River Basin Authority, Engr Mohammed Adra, also called on the NYSC to embrace irrigation farming to enhance food security in the ciuntry.
