The immediate past commissioner of environment and natural resources in Nasarawa state, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, has survived assassination attempt in Nasarawa state.
Abubakar who recently defectrd from All Progressive Congress (APC) to join New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), became the candidate of the state House of Assembly for Doma South constituency.
The former state government official while speaking on Sunday from his hospital bed said 46 bullet shots hit and penetrated his car.
He said the incident occurred on September 21, 2022 at about 5:30pm close to Igbabo village, about 20 kilometres to Doma local government headquarters of the state while he was returning from Rukubi after making donation of relief materials to victims of flood disaster.
“I am in pains, but I want to disclose to the world that, on the 21st of this month, I went to Rukubi town and donated relief materials including cash and other items to victims of flood disaster in my local government of Doma.
“After the donation, I was going back from the town to Doma when about nine gunmen opened fire on me from different directions, the bullets hit me on the front which was blocked by my GSM handset, but they shot and hit me on my elbow and back,” he said.
He said he was rescued by good Samaritans who took him on a motorcycle and rode for 20 kilometres to Doma, and letter conveyed to Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia, the state capital.
He confirmed that three bullets were removed from him at DASH, two AK rifle bullets from his ribs and one metal ball from his back.
He said he spent three days at the intensive care unit of DASH, but ran away to an undisclosed location.
When contacted, the chairman of Doma local government, Arch. Ahmad Sarki Usman, confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm to you that the matter has been reported to the Police authorities,” he said.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel also said, “I can confirm this incident happened on 21 September 2022.
“Investigation has commenced as effort is ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the act.”
