In Nigeria, Zamfara gov’s wife emerges first lady of the year

The Indigenous Women Award (IWA), a non-governmental organisation has bestowed on Hajiya Aisha Bello Matawalle, wife of Zamfara state Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle with a merit award as the indigenous First Lady of the Year 2021.

This was made known by the press secretary to the governor’s wife, Zainab Shuaibu Abdullahi, in a statement issued made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital on Monday.

“The award which is sponsored by the indigenous organisation was given to the first lady for her steadfast contribution and consistency in promoting indigenous content globally,” she said.

According to her, the first lady was awarded on merit and based on her commitments in promoting and helping vulnerable women and children, protecting gender equality and promote indigenous content.

“Hajiya Aisha Bello Matawalle who was nominated along with the first lady of Gombe, Kaduna and Kwara emerged as the best choice to the award because of her passion to uplift women in Zamfara state,” the press secretary said.

She further revealed that the organisers focused on great leaders who have the heart for the development of the youth and girl-child which is the main thrust of the first lady’s pet project such as the Zamfara women empowerment programme, the fight against rape and gender-based violence.
