In Yobe, Buni signs N2.5bn contract, begins distribution of tractors, others to farmers

Yobe state government has signed a contract worth N2.5billion for the supply of nine thousand metric tones of fertilizer and forty units of Mercy Ferguson (MF 375) tractors to boost agricultural activities in the state.

Signing the contract on behalf of the state government, Thursday Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural resource, Mangarima Lawan, said the effort would ensure food security in the state.

“Yobe state government has approved and released N2,583,000,000 for the procurement of farm inputs and implements.  N1.7m was approved for the supply of nine thousand metric tones of fertilizer, while N882million for immediate supply of forty units of tractors” he said.

While urging the contractors to adhere strictly to the contractual agreement enshrined and timely delivery, Lawan, said “the companies were selected base on the confidence reposed on them and should not fail the state government”.

The representatives of the two companies, Muhammad Gidado of PONGLOMERAPE and Halidu Abubakar of Mantali Nigeria Limited assured the state government of strict compliance of the agreement and timely delivery.

Some may recall, the Yobe governor had at his inaugural speech promised to supply the 17 local government councils with 20 numbers of tractors each to increase food sufficiency, diversify the economy and create jobs in the state.

Already, North East Commodity Association (NECAS), a Central Bank of Nigeria anchor borrower had complimented the efforts of the state government in supplying 100 units of tractors to boost farming activities recently.
