INEC issues Borno governor-elect, deputy, others certificates

The National Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in charge of Borno, Adamawa and Taraba States, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Tijani Muazu (rtd), on Wednesday presented certificates of return to the Borno State Governor elect Professor Banagana Umara Zulum and his Deputy Alhaji Umar Usamn Kadafur.

He also presented certificates of return to all 28 members-elect of the Borno State House of Assembly (BOSHA) representing the 27 state constituencies at the Kashim Ibrahim College of Education conference hall Maiduguri.

The event took place at the state collation center for the Presidential , National Assembly and governorship elections.

While making the presentation, the INEC National Commissioner appreciated the efforts and sacrifices of the commission’s permanent and ad-hoc staff as well as the security agencies.


He congratulated the winners of 2019 general elections and further urged them to keep to their electioneering campaign promises made to the electorate in a bid to develop the state.

Muazu however thanked the supporters and stakeholders in the state for the support and cooperation given to INEC during  the conduct of the elections in the state which he acknowledged helped the commission to carry out its constitutional mandate of free, fair and credible general elections in 2019.

He said the presentation of certificates to winners of the elections was mandatory and in compliance with the provision of section 75 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).

Responding on behalf of others, the governor elect, Professor Zulum, acknowledged the support and efforts of all INEC staff in conducting a hitch -free and successful general elections while congratulating all the  national and state assembly members-elects from the state.

Incidentally, the entire lawmakers (state and federal) in state are members of All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor-elect then commended the sacrifices of the APC stakeholders, electorate and security agencies in the electoral process while assuring of building on what his predecessor has established.

Zulum said his immediate target was to ensure safe return of all Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their communities, then strengthen security across the state,.

He said his administration would address security challenges, unemployment, job creation, education which were the main causes of Boko haram insurgency.

He solicited for the support and cooperation of all and sundry, irrespective of political background and ethnicity in other to move the state forward  while praying for everlasting peace in the state and country at large
