INEC issues certificates of return to 30 assembly members-elect in Anambra

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, issued certificate of return to 30 elected House of Assembly members in Anambra State.Among the lawmakers are 24 members of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and 6 members of People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Presenting the certificates at State headquarters of INEC in Awka, the Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Dr Leo Nkwachukwu Orji, charged the elected officers to fulfil the promises made to the electorates.

According to Orji, the certificate of return were proof of the mandate which earned politicians votes from electorate.

On his part, the INEC National Commission and Chairman, Information and Voter Education,  Festus Okoye, expressed worry over the incessant cases of harassment, maiming and killing of ad-hoc staff recorded during the just concluded general elections.

Okoye, who blamed the ugly development on desperate politicians, implore politicians to put more efforts on campaign and leave their alone.

He regretted that the anomaly might force parents and guardians to stop their sons and daughters doing their national youth service from participating n the electoral process.

Speaking in an interview, Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Nwokoye, member elect for Awka North State Constituency, assured his constituents of dividends of democracy, noting that he would not stop from moving for laws and resolutions for betterment of all.

Meanwhile, over 50 men and women under the auspices of Anambra Central Constituents, on Thursday, protested over the decision of Senator Victor Umeh to challenge the mandate they gave freely to Senator Uche Ekwunife.

Umeh is a serving senator and APGA senatorial candidate at the election. 

The protesters who gathered at the popular Ekwueme square, protested through the streets to the Anambra State Judicial Headquarters, expressing disappointment that an election Anambra Central invested their time, energy and resources to participate in, and PDP Candidate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, got the popular votes in the entire seven local governments in the Senatorial zone to clinch victory with wide margin, would be challenged in court over reasons which according to them were baseless.
